After the long and cold winter season, the arrival of springtime is always a welcome event. Unfortunately, this is the time wherein a home starts to reveal the results of the winter beating that it took. From gutters filled with dead leaves to plumbing with cracked piping, there are so many things that need to be repaired or maintained in a home once spring season approaches. But before you start having serious anxiety issues and get a panic attack, here are some practical ways to go about spring cleaning.
Be thorough about checking each room and fixture in the home, including outside fixtures. Some noteworthy areas to not miss include the gutters of you home, the chimney, windows, plumbing and the electrical system. As you go around the house, make notes and prioritize issues. Once your list is finished, categorize issues into ones that are easy to repair and those which will take more money or time to complete.
The need for general cleaning.
When spring fever kicks in it makes you want to clean everything. Be organized when it comes to cleaning the home. Tackle the bigger messes first. Don’t be ashamed to ask for help from friends or family. And get organized. Nothing kills productivity like constant trips to the hardware or grocery store to pick up little things like a mop or cleaning solution over and over.
Get down and dirty in the garden.
During winter, most outdoor plants either become dormant or wither. So when the cold retreats, your garden might look like a scene from an apocalyptic movie. Just like cleaning inside the home, preparing the garden is all about organization. Make sure to have your gardening tools on hand and trash bags ready. After the garden is cleaned out, till it and prepare it for the best part, planting new seeds.
Check your air conditioning system.
After your air conditioner has sat unused for months, there may be a little maintenance or tune-up needed. Check for loose wires, rust, or wind damage on the outside unit. Also, replace your furnace’s filter and check it for wear and tear from constant heater use throughout winter. Even though the furnace pumps out heat in the winter, it is also used to push the cold air from the air conditioner in the summer, too.
By following these simple tips, you will be able to have a well-maintained home and enjoy all of the beauty that springtime brings.
