Washington is the Evergreen State. When fall arrives, we have trees that turn beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red. Here are some of our favorite locations to take in the beautiful scenery of changing leaves.
Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle
Seattle and the University of Washington together oversee 230-sections of a land of greenery found on the shores of Lake Washington. Visit this location to take in beautiful colors from the Japanese Maple, Asiatic Maple, and Mountain Ash found on the upper east side of the recreation center, and the Japanese Garden on the southwest portion of the recreation center.
Alpine Lakes Wilderness
The mountain landscape and yellow Alpine larch trees fascinate climbers who walk the trails in the Cascades. The gemlike pools of The Enchantments are a top destination among hikers. There are fall colors to be enjoyed around Leavenworth and Icicle Creek Canyon and close by Lake Wenatchee.
Lake Ann and Maple Pass
Fall colors are enhanced when the snow-capped larch trees turn brilliant and highlight the Mountain View. This mountain view is west of Washington Pass on State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, a 7-mile circle trail to Maple Pass and Heather Pass in North Cascades National Park. Lake Ann sits in a forested dish, with beautiful Cascade tops rising all around. Rainey Lake and Blue Lake have shorter and simpler trails.
Pend Oreille River Valley and Little Pend Oreille Lakes
For diverse fall colors, go to the far upper east corner of Washington to see the larch, cottonwood, and aspen trees. To get there, go through Highway 20 over Sherman Pass, and the Kettle Range mountainside and onto Colville National Forest. Be sure to include Lake Sullivan for additional beautiful fall colors.
Indian Heaven Wilderness
Huckleberry fields are in Gifford Pinchot National Forest in the southern Cascades. An incredible view of colorful trees is found of Mount Adam in the Trout Lake region as you walk along the Bird Mountain Loop Trail.
Washington State Kitchen and Bath invites you to come and see and enjoy the beautiful fall colors our State has to offer. The breathtaking colors and views are something that you’ll never forget.
